I have to retrace my steps here…I think I was going pretty meta with the story, so for me it was more of an in-joke. On the other hand, I think I should probably re-letter it if it’s not working…hrm hrm hrm!
I like the line the way it is! “Why does this make any sense at all?” sounds totally natural to me, and it’s probably what I’d be shouting if I were in a spot like that.
I think “How does this make any sense at all?!” is the best option for that line…”why” implies that it’s been established that it makes sense already, and that he’s asking whoever told him it makes sense why they chose to label it as sensical*.
